You picked a mediocre episode to define a whole series. Shame on you! (just kidding).

While the laugh track can get absurd and the jokes juvenile, some episodes have been quite clever with SF tropes. Part of the setup is that Lister has, well, millions of years in which to do nothing, so the computer (Holly) recreates a holographic Rimmer from a backup in order to stop Lister from going mad from boredom. So a lot of the episodes center on how they try to escape from being bored. Antics ensue. I recommend you check out the episodes "Backwards", "Stoke me a Clipper", "Timeslides", and "Tikka to Ride" before you write it off completely. But I get if it's just not your thing.

I enjoy and respect these stages of grief. ;) I did remember the show as being not my cup of tea but far better than anything involving rat orifices, if that's a comfort, but random numbers were cruel!

Brutal. I am now experiencing the five stages of grief:

Denial: No way she doesn't like Red Dwarf.
Anger: This is BS. How can she judge an entire series on just a few minutes?
Bargaining: Maybe if she watched more, or a better episode she would change her mind.
Depression: Dang.
Acceptance: It's cool. Different strokes and whatnot.
