Which makes me sound like Waldo, but worse things have happened. That guy knew what cool was long before Harry Potter showed up with his poser glasses.

May 16: I will be appearing on Hour of the Wolf with <lj user="johnjosephadams">. I will be reading my story from his Federations anthology, and we will be talking shit about Star Trek. Luckily, since I think we’re both pretty pro-Picard, it won’t devolve into half-asleep protests of Kirk’s awesomeness accompanied by the sound of exhausted shoulder-punches.

May 20mumble-25: I’ll be at WisCon! I have one panel scheduled, on netbooks, which is hilarious considering the battery in my Acer just choked and died. That’ll be a fun panel.

July 9-12: Readercon! I am already preparing nutritional supplements to take with me, since this hotel is sorely lacking in vegetarian foodstuffs, and I had to keep asking for cheeseburgers with no meat. (Dear waitstaff of the world: I know, and I’m sorry, but seriously, if there’s no grilled cheese option then I am at a loss.) I will be bringing Powerbars or something now that I know the culinary situation. That won’t look dorky at all! *facepalm*

Disclaimer: I don’t care about Valentine’s Day except that it gives me a chance to make a list post. I am the Switzerland of Valentine’s day. (Unless people ask me if I’m excited for my “name day,” and then I sigh, because seriously, that joke was old in fourth grade, it’s old now.)

- Michael Fassbender. You inexplicably turn me all caps, big guy. Can’t wait to see you in your disastrous Wuthering Heights next year.

- Star Fleet wallets. I am the bird! (God, did I ever leave the house as an adolescent? Don’t answer that.)

- Family and friends. Dear Mom, I love you so much. Sorry I’m not changing my name. Apologize to Grandma for me.

- Fassbender, my portable computer. It allows me to be rude in public whenever I want.

- My TV. It took away the dialogue track for this week’s Eleventh Hour. It was amazing. Graeme Revell, one of my favorite composers, gave me a little concert, and I got to see the worst arch-enemy arc in recent memory. See for yourself at Tor.com!

ETA: And I never have to watch another episode of Dollhouse now that I turned in my opinion piece to Fantasy, which makes this day practically Thanksgiving!

1. TV departed – my list of Eight Reasons You Should be Downloading the First Season of “The Middleman” is live at Fantasy Magazine. Because if my weekly gibberings haven’t convinced you, then by god, a numbered list will!

2. TV present – I think weekends on the SciFi channel are designed to sap my will to live. The fact that I watched Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves WILLINGLY, THREE TIMES rather than watch the SciFi channel is proof of how bad the SciFi movies are; when I can’t sit through something, you know it’s bad news. The TiVo descriptions are like poetry, though. And by “poetry”, I mean “the poem Joey from third grade wrote about how he would use his pet dragon to burn up his little sister, and suddenly the teacher decided it was time for recess and sent Joey to the nurse”.

3. TV forthcoming – I will, of course, be following every episode of Eleventh Hour (for the four episodes I suspect will air before they can it). I will be reporting on it here. I need some kind of ASCII shorthand for “googly eye”, but otherwise I’m rarin’ to go on this one. Sewell, dude, you knew this day would come.

(Fun fact: I’ve written more about Rufus Sewell in this blog than I have about any other actor. That’s really bizarre to me, because if you ask me to give you a list of my favorite actors, he’s on it, but I’d probably give you a list of twenty guys and then I’d call you later and be like, “Oh! And Rufus Sewell. And that guy who played Roe in Band of Brothers. And Jim Boadbent.”)

4. High on that list would be Julian Rhind-Tutt, who I do like as an actor, but whose name I would put on the list regardless, because HIS NAME IS JULIAN RHIND-TUTT. This actually counts as TV, too, since he was on “Keen Eddie”, which I watched for all thirteen episodes until they canned it. This also means I got to hate Sienna Miller before it was cool to hate her.

5. Which reminds me, I’m ripe for disliking another “blonde and winning” TV lady! Marley Shelton, I’m looking at you.

My flash fic “Count” is up at Cabinet des Fées.

Looking at the TOCs for this and for the Journal of Mythic Arts farewell issue, I am struck by how much I love fairy tales; I mean, you think you’re a cool cat, and then suddenly you’re flailing over a Rackham illustration and you think, “Whoops, nope, there’s the glee!” *

* For certain values of “you” that probably only include “me”. To be fair, Rackham draws great costumes; it’s a stacked deck against me.
